Official Rules
Marathon & Half Marathon
1. Placements & Divisions
Cash prizes are available for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each division (Marathon & Half Marathon).
2. Course Record Requirement
To be eligible for a prize, the finisher must set a new course record for that division.
A runner who holds the course record is not eligible to win a prize unless at least 3 years have passed and a new course record has been set.
3. Rolling Prize Pool
If no runner sets a new course record in their division, that prize money rolls into the following year, increasing the pot.
The longer a record stands, the larger the prize grows.
4. Course Certification & Records
Course certification is currently pending. Until certification is finalized, course records and times will be recognized within the Moosehead Marathon only.
These times will not qualify for USATF recognition or Boston Marathon standards until certification is complete.
Once the course is certified, all new course records will be recognized as official certified records.
5. Timing & Verification
All official times must be recorded by the race’s chip timing system.
Course records and prize eligibility are only recognized with official chip times (no manual watches or GPS devices).
6. Course Integrity
Runners must complete the official course in its entirety.
Any deviation (skipping, cutting the course, receiving unauthorized assistance) results in disqualification.
7. Sportsmanship & Conduct
Unsportsmanlike behavior, interference with other runners, or failure to follow race official instructions may result in disqualification.
8. Eligibility
Only registered participants are eligible for prizes and records.
No pacing by unregistered runners or outside assistance (bikes, scooters, vehicles, etc.) is permitted.
9. Record Verification
All course records and prize eligibility are subject to review by the race committee.
Any appeals must be submitted in writing within 48 hours of race results posting.
10. Weather & Contingencies
In the event of severe weather, course adjustments, or emergencies, the race committee reserves the right to adjust results, delay or cancel the event, and/or declare records ineligible for that year.
11. Race Committee Authority
The Moosehead Marathon race committee reserves the right to review, investigate, and disqualify any participant for reasons including but not limited to rule violations, unsportsmanlike conduct, or actions deemed to compromise the integrity of the race.
All decisions by the race committee are final.
⚡ Example of Rule #2 in Action
Runner A sets the course record in 2025.
In 2026 and 2027, Runner A may run faster again but cannot claim the prize since they already hold the record.
If Runner B breaks the record in 2027, Runner A becomes eligible again starting in 2028.
